Weld County is currently experiencing light snow/rain mix. We are just seeing a bit of slush build up on roads south of HWY 52; trucks have been dispatched to clear slush. Winds are very light to moderate and precipitation rates vary with squalls. Temperatures remain above freezing currently. We will continue working areas as needed and will keep observing conditions through the rest of afternoon into this evening. Expectations are for moisture to clear out before midnight.

Health Department Offers Free Cervical Cancer Screenings

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month and women ages 21-64 across Weld County are encouraged to schedule a Pap test. A Pap test can save a life because pre-cancer cells and early stages of cervical cancer show no signs or symptoms. However, when it is found early, more than 93 percent of women survive cervical cancer.

In 2018 in the United States, 13,240 new cases of cervical cancer were diagnosed, and 4,170 women died from the disease. Women are most frequently diagnosed between the ages of 35-44, and Latinas and African-American women are at higher risk for developing cervical cancer.
“Cervical Cancer Awareness Month is the perfect time to remind women that these tests can be the difference between life and death,” said Mark E. Wallace, MD, MPH, Executive Director of the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment. “A pap test is the first line of defense against cervical cancer. Because of Women’s Wellness Connection, we can help women stay cancer-free who otherwise would not be able to afford the cervical cancer screenings.”

Women’s Wellness Connection offers FREE cervical cancer screenings and necessary follow-up tests to women aged 21-64 in Weld County. The program also provides women with one-on-one education to address needs, transportation, language interpretation and translation, child or dependent care, appointment scheduling, and insurance enrollment. To qualify, women must have no health insurance or health insurance with a high deductible or co-pay.

To learn more about Women’s Wellness Connection, how to qualify for the free services, and to schedule an appointment, call 970-400-2400.
